Ametora Button-Down Selvedge Oxford Shirt
Ametora is Japanese slang for “American traditional” — the East Coast collegiate style that forged the Japanese menswear industry in the 1960s. Our Ametora oxford cloth button-down in white or saxe blue offers an authentic recreation of the dress shirts commonly seen on Madison Avenue in the 1950s. The shirt body uses the looser fit of that era, and the long collar, at 3.5-inches, is perfect for wearing with a necktie and navy blazer or for staying visible under a sweater. Other Ivy-style details include a box pleat at back, gathered sleeves on barrel cuffs, and the widely spaced six-front buttons.

Selvedge Oxford: A Touch of Heritage
Selvedge Oxford fabric is woven on traditional shuttle looms, a testament to which is the "selvage edge" or "self-edge" (often featuring a distinctive red line). Modern looms prioritize efficiency, employing a back-and-forth weaving technique that doesn't produce this unique edge. Selvedge looms take five times longer to weave fabric compared to their contemporary counterparts.

The Allure of the Imperfect
Why, in this day and age, do we still utilize these seemingly inefficient selvedge looms? What sets selvedge Oxford apart from its modern-loom-produced equivalent? It's difficult to put into words, but selvedge Oxford possesses an almost airy, homespun quality. With each wash, it gracefully conforms to the wearer's body, becoming a cherished second skin.

A Rare Find
We invite you to experience the unparalleled texture of Oxford fabric woven on these now exceedingly rare shuttle looms. As a special touch, we've incorporated the red selvedge edge on the inside of the shirt's front placket, running luxuriously from the collar down to the hem.
